Portland -- Gov. Kate Brown thanked Democrats for their support in the Democratic primary and called on the eventual winner of the Republican nomination for Governor of Oregon to join her in three debates and as many joint appearances with independent media outlets as possible.

“Voters deserve to hear directly from us where we stand on the issues,” Governor Brown said. “I’m fighting to ensure every Oregonian has access to a quality education, a good job and affordable health care.”

“Over the last three years Oregonians have come together under my leadership to pass the state’s largest transportation package, creating 16,000 new jobs, ensure that all Oregon children have access to health care and improve graduation rates by 4.7 points.” Governor Brown said. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue to lead Oregon forward.”

Gov. Brown took office after the resignation of Gov. John Kitzhaber in 2015. In 2016, Oregonians elected Gov. Brown by a 7 point margin.

Each fall joint appearance will be hosted by an organization with experience hosting gubernatorial debates. Dates and times for the events will be worked out with hosts this summer. All events are expected to occur in September or early October.
