As outrage among Oregon voters grows over the appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Republican Knute Buehler continues to struggle with words.

At a press conference Friday, Buehler was asked about the Kavanaugh hearing and the testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

REPORTER: "Do you believe Dr. Ford?"

KNUTE BUEHLER: "I believe we need to have a full FBI investigation and have the facts on the table. So, thank you very much."

ANCHOR: "He ended the conference with that question."

Buehler, a Bend Republican, has spent the summer trying to hide his conservative voting record in order to win the governor’s office. He voted against a enshrining Roe V Wade in Oregon law, voted against funding Oregon’s Medicaid expansion and has a lifetime F rating from the Oregon League of Conservation Voters.

On Monday Governor Kate Brown walked out of the Oregon capitol in solidarity with victims of sexual and domestic violence. She’s been on record since July about the threat Kavanaugh’s appointment poses to women’s rights and healthcare. And Senator Ron Wyden and Senator Jeff Merkley praised her leadership on Kavanaugh and called out Buehler’s silence.

“Governor Brown is the only one in this race that is a steadfast champion for reproductive rights and Oregon values,” said Christian Gaston, Brown campaign spokesman. “Knute knows he’s on the wrong side of Oregonians, which is why he’s dodging questions.”
